Reading notes W2: Coyote Cooks His Daughter
The story Coyote Cooks His Daughter has an underlying theme of one has to be careful who they trust. The insight and influence behind this story could have come from a personal experience someone has been, perhaps not someone killing their child in order to have food to eat but rather when you think you are safe with your family who should love and support you the most then turn there backs on you and do something unthinkable. The father Coyote ultimately killed his daughter coyote for selfish reasons, because he could find no food to cook. The father coyote then turned to his daughter to sacrifice her for his won selfish reasons "so he didn't see anything to kill. So grabbing his daughter he hit her with a stick" (53). The underlying theme being, that one has to be careful who they trust is evident in this quote, the daughter thought she was going to fetch food with her father but little did she know he would then turn his back on her and use her for food. The theme in the story Coyote Cooks his Daughter is identified through the the actions the father took and just how far he went to meet his needs without thinking about others involoved.
