Reading notes, week 3, Whitfield- Self Reliance

The Poem Self-Reliance by James Whitfield is very powerful and moving. Whitfield is writing about a time of slavery and discrimination but he sees the light in every situation and teaches readers through his poem how to go about life and stay positive in times where life isn't. Whitfield talks about having faith in God and the power God has over us in every situation as well as one needing to lift their soul to God above as Whitfield says. Whitfield continues to discuss how to stay strong, and rely on God, he put out a positive message during a time of black oppression and fighting for equal rights in order to get others through this time period in history and after it.

For project number 2 I plan on writing about the topic Choose one short story or novel excerpt. Write a piece in which you explore the following: In what ways could this story be considered an artifact of history? What does this story teach us about history? I really enjoyed reading this story so I think further discussing it will be good. Topic research

The project topic I will choose is " "Explore the relationship between elements of the selection. For example: how does setting influence character development?".  The key elements needed for this project will be for me to focus on one element, and how that connects another element and the relationship those two have. I am choosing this topic because I like to see how a story comes toghether through the interaction of different elements. I have found that while all elements in a story are important to move the story along the key elements I will choose from will be setting, character, plot or point of view. upon further research, I think I will explore the relationship between character and setting.

The stock, week 8

The more I review how far I have long in the class the better I feel about it. I am sure that now I am up to date on backing up up my blog post and I have taken stock of where I am in the class. I have read all of the announcements that have been posted and I am on track.
