Reading notes, Week 4, From A Frontier Lady

In the text From A Frontier Lady by Sarah Eleanor Royce was a very interesting and inspiring story to read. The character development in this story plays a big role in the plot and moving the story along the way. Sarah Joyce and her family are extremely brave, strong-willed and optimistic staying so in very testing circumstances. Bravery and optimism were shown in the family from the beginning of their journey Joyce stating: “without flinching” and “ I even laughed” (136). In a situation where many would think it would be hard to stay strong and to keep laughing, looking for the light at the end tunnel this family did just that. They did not question and turn back but they kept moving forward thanks to their strong-willed personality traits and her religious background that is discussed in the introduction. This family continued to push forward, through tremendously difficult environments and events occurring, staying strong with the help of God and their religion pushing them to make it to California.
