Reading notes, week 13, Vietnam Easy
Trami is now deep into the cooking show and notices symptoms of her being nervous when on the phone and she would get sweaty armpits. She decided to consult a doctor and found that she had symptoms of anxiety.
" It was not acceptable for us Vietnamese to have mood disorders. It was not allowed" (59)
You would think an issue with a mental health disorder would not be frowned upon but rather people and family would want to come alongside that person and help them through it.
This is not the case in Vietnamese culture and those types of people would be considered crazy. Looking at the cultural differences when dealing with different health and mental issues are dealt with quite differently, some cultures embrace it and others try to ignore the fact that it exists.
It seems as though Trami would want to deal with it and talk to her doctor about ways to work through the problem but that is not he way her culture deals with this topic instead she said she would mask with deodorant so she wouldn't have to take the medicine.
