Week 14, Analysis
In the last part of the book, I read Vietnam Eazy written by Trami Cron. The use of the literary device, point of view has been very important in this book, Trami talks about and recalls a personal story, she tells a story about personal experiences and thoughts while switching from present time together recalling past stories that have impacted her and shaped her into who she is today. Because Trami is the one telling the story about herself the reader is then hearing all of these accounts through her eyes which influences the way and changes the way the reader may read the text. Through this last part of the book the theme of acceptance and value of someone as been carried on. Trami has told the readers a few more accounts of when she saw the theme running through her life. Culture plays a big role into this theme with the high standards Trami has to follow in Vietnamese culture. A big emotional toll was experienced by Trami to her feeling undermined and forgotten by others and even when she felt like this she did not feel like she had a voice to speak up but rather she was to accept the way she was feeling and do nothing to change it, which her cultural background accepted of her. Trami culture has also influenced some of her choices like her social and dating life, in Vietnamese culture there were high expectations manly from the mother, or at least so in Tramis case of who you should and should not date. That is just another example of how culture has influenced Tramis life and how experiences she has been through have reflected the theme of acceptance in her culture.
Hi Grace. Did you find this book a little confusing since it goes from the present to the past? The Joy Luck Club was written this way as well and at times I was confused. I can understand if Trami felt emotional because she felt she could not be herself and express her own feelings. It must have been tough for Trami to grow up with Vietnamese parents who were brought up in Vietnam and for her to have grown up in the United States. I am assuming Trami grew up mainly in the United States? I am interested to read this book when I have the free time. Thanks for sharing.
